I made a very bad choice yesterday…
I joined a [tag]Yahoo Group[/tag] that has over 14,000 members.
You might be thinking “Hey Vern, thats good! This means you can market to over 14,000 people in the group”.
But the result of it…”OMG! Why are these emails still keep coming in? When is it going to stop?!!”
No doubt that Yahoo Group is a good place to put your [tag]e-mail marketing[/tag] skill to use, and to market your products or services based on the the categories you’ve selected, meaning you have a more targeted audience. And of course, I’ve made money from it.
However…
Depending on the category of a Yahoo Group you’re in, it doesn’t necessary mean you have over 14,000 members to target, most likely more than half of these members are targeting you!
Which means on average, the group may have hundreds to a thousand new messages posted everyday. This is especially true if you’re in a business opportunity group. Everyone wants to promote their business and seldom people would read the emails from the group.
Although Yahoo Group is about mass e-mailing to subscribed members, but what is important is not to sell to people, but rather building relationship and trust. Would you want to continue receiving email from a person who keeps promoting and selling you stuffs? I don’t think so.
If you decide to join a Yahoo Group, join one that has a reasonable membership size (size doesn’t matter), that has a resonable amount of correspondence, and one that you can contribute to.
Join with a purpose, not with a motive.
