I recently got a question from Freddy…
“Hi Vern, I’m new to the [tag]Internet Marketing[/tag] and I would like to ask you a question, hope you can help.
For the past 1 month, I’ve been marketing an [tag]affiliate program[/tag] actively via email and forum, but I’m still not making money, not even 1 sale! What can I do?”
After probing further with Freddy, I found the problem…
There’re definitely many issues to consider when you’re not getting sales for your effort, such as:
- Trust and Credibility
- Conversion rate of the affiliate website
- Content of your email/discussion/advertisement
- Where you market the product
- How you direct visitor to your affiliate website
- and many more…
Freddy is actually promoting a reasonable converting product from clickbank, where he market it through mailing list and as signature in forum discussion. Generally, he did most things right, but one thing he did wrongly, he marketed his [tag]affiliate link[/tag] - http://xxx.yyyy.hop.clickbank.net.
Do you see the problem here?
As a newbie who is not familiar with the Internet, they wouldn’t know what this ugly link is about, where it’ll lead them, and for all they care, it could be a virus!
Whereas for Internet Marketer, it is very obvious that the link is an affiliate link with a $ sign attached to it, and people don’t really like to be sold.
On the other hand, the Internet Marketer may like the product very much and wants to purchase it, but probably not from you, so they simply change the URL and let someone else earn the commission (including themselves.. If you know what I mean)
Most Internet Marketers have gone through this stage and the evolution began few years back, where instead of directly market their affiliate links, they used redirect instead e.g. http://www.vernlai.com/recommends/quitdayjob/ and http://www.Online-Business-Success.com/free-report.
It is somewhat obvious that the first link is about me recommending a product / service associated with quiting your day job and the second link about getting free report on how to be successful online.
As you can see, not only would you have control over what others see, you’re also making your URL more friendly and relevant to what it is associated with.
If you’re still marketing your affiliate links, start changing them, I’m sure your click through rate would increase.
